PHIL PICKENS

Indie Folk Rock

Track 1, Side A “Gwinnett Mall”

Out April 24, 2026

Phil Pickens writes songs that live in the space between restraint and release. Raised outside Atlanta and now based in New York City, his work blends poetic storytelling with warm, roots-leaning textures — delayed guitars, steady drums, and melodies that unfold patiently. Described as “big-hearted and rootsy,” his sound carries warmth beneath quiet tension: memory that lingers and risk that doesn’t fully resolve.

Caution to the Wind marks a new chapter for Pickens — grounded, unhurried, and quietly expansive. Reuniting with producer James Frazee, he built the album from the foundation up, tracking live with the rhythm section to preserve feel over polish.

The record rolls out over the next year, weaving together American landscapes inside specific moments. “Gwinnett Mall” drifts through teenage corridors before closing with a field recording of the 7 p.m. COVID cheers of 2020 — a fragile moment of collective unity captured in real time. Across the album, ordinary settings widen into reflections on distance, faith, and forward motion.
